A CD published by Earl Shilton Old Clock Club
This CD records many of the country clocks and the Deacon workshop that were once on display at the Newarke House Museum in Leicester, England. Alas, the collection has now been removed and it no longer available to us. Fortunately I was able to visit the museum in May 2002 and was very impressed (see my report written shortly after my visit). Beside the wonderful collection of country clocks the recreation of the Deacon workshop stood out as a unique record of way clocks were made.
We are grateful to a local group, the Earl Shilton Old Clock Club, in co-operation with the museum for putting together a CD with the contents of the collection and the workshop. The disk contains seventy-three longcase, seven lantern clocks, seven turret clocks plus eight others. The workshop section shows the contents of the cabinet drawers, partially finished movements as well as overall pictures of the machinery and tools. Many of these pictures would not have been possible to view at the museum. The clocks have overall views and with multiple pictures with the hood removed and of course it was not possible to see all the hand tools etc. in the workshop.
I was so impressed with the CD that I ordered several copies and will be selling them (at cost) at Chapter 159 meetings this year, or they can be obtained from D. Grimshaw, The Old Clock Club, c/o William Bradford Community College, Heath Lane, Earle Shilton, Leics. LE9 7PD. England. Checks should be payable to ‘The Old Clock Club’. Price £11.00 inc. p&p in the UK only. Kenneth Johnston, January 2005. Chapter 159 Secretary.
